Tourism in India during monsoon season Contrary to prevalent opinion, traveling in India during rainy monsoon season can be fun and cheap. Some people advise against it due to factors like blocked roads, unreliable weather etc. An unexpected flood or landslide can upset planned travel itinerary. Inspite of all this traveling in India during monsoons can be advantageous in a number of ways. One being tourists getting good discounts on high-expense factors like air fares, hotels. They can also enjoy their sightseeing in relative peace as peak season tourist crowds are absent. Let us explain a little about monsoons in India before going any further. India is a a huge country and is rightly classified as a sub-continent due to it’s size as well as the large diversity it enjoys in form of different landscapes and weather. You can find cold snow covered Himalayan mountains in north, evergreen tropical forests in east, hot Thar deserts in west,, temperate coasts in south and more. All of these all provide tourists with large varieties of options and time periods in which to travel across the country. Actually there is no definite or set time to for tourists to visit India. Different regions in India have different peak-seasons for tourists. Writing about it wil need another article by itself. Raneh waterfalls during monsoon season, khajuraho, Monsoon tourism Raneh waterfalls during monsoon season, India Monsoon is the rainy season of Indian sub-continent which lasts from June to September in different regions. It reaches southern parts of India in early June and travels northwards over the next few months. Northern India receives first monsoon showers in late June or early July. Not every region in India experiences equal monsoon rainfall or at same time period. All of them have different experiences with monsoon rains. Monsoon rains play a very important role in economy and lives of everyone in the sub-continent. Arrival of monsoon rains marks the end of hot and dusty Indian summers and makes the weather cool and surroundings greener and beautiful. Indian people in general love rains and it’s a common sight to see them enjoying the rainfall by getting soaked in the rain showers. Chai ( type of milky Indian tea) and hot Pakoda (a fried salty snack) are popular snacks during this season. Here are some ways for tourists to enjoy rainy monsoon season in India Monsoon tourism in India 1) New greenery and cool, pleasant weather Everything becomes doubly beautiful during monsoons in India. The weather is much more pleasant, cool breezes blow almost all day long and the surroundings are covered with lush new greenery. All of this is a relaxing sight for sore eyes . Many places in India, like Kerala, Western Ghats parts of eastern and central India are even more beautiful during monsoons due to clouds and greenery. A lot of rivers are in full flow and this makes for very beautiful and gushing waterfalls. 2) Diverse weather conditions, landscapes and customised travel plans Due to varied landscapes and weather in different regions, tourists in India can plan their journey all year round. Tourism in India is not bound to dates in a calendar or weather reports to plan and enjoy the journey. Monsoon tourism is just another part of traveling in India. 3) Great discounts in hotels, airlines and other businesses due to lean season A lot of airlines and hotels offer very good discounts even without asking during monsoons due to lean season. It can really decrease your travel expenses by a large margin. As majority of tourists prefer to stay indoors during rains, tourist activity is much less and you can enjoy your travel in comparative peace and leisure. 4) Cleansing rains Many people believe that rains of monsoons are have a cleansing effect on everything. Pollution due to smoke and dust particles is very low and people are in general feel more comfortable in cooler weather. Ayurvedic detoxification treatments are one of the major attractions of monsoon tourism in India. Many herbs used in certain ayurvedic practices grow during monsoons and the rains seem to have a good effect on efficacy of certain plants. Precautions for Monsoon tourism Here are some basic precautions that the tourists should observe while traveling in India during monsoons: 1) Plan road trips carefully Mountainous regions are more prone to random road blockages due to landslides, flash floods etc during rainy season. Plans your road trips only after taking these factors in to count. 2) Be safe with drinking water Don’t drink tap water or from untrusted sources like lakes and rivers during rainy season. Always drink bottled or filtered water. 3) Be wary of bugs Bugs and other small critters like mosquitoes, flies and even snakes can be a nuisance during rainy season. Keep a bug spray or insect repellant handy and be careful 4) Wild life parks are closed Almost every national park and wild-life area is closed for tourists during monsoons. So if you want to do a jungle safari or a similar adventure, confirm the availability in advance. That’s about everything that we have to say about monsoon tourism in India for now. We sincerely hope that this article may prove to be of some use for tourists visiting India during monsoons as well as other times. The harness is fitted at a height of 7 meters approximately on one side and you will roll under the gravitational force. Your vision is blurred as you reach a speed of 160 km. Typically carried out by 3 persons consecutively, you can opt to do it alone with some small additional cost. Swing Jumping in Rishikesh The same platform used for Bungee jumping is used for Swing jumping. A chest harness secures you well as you jump from the platform. Once the fall is initialized , the ropes will make you swing like a pendulum with the river beneath you , about 10 meters above the forest. As you complete the activity, you are lowered into the river which is quite shallow . Key Things You Need to Know about Indian Food http://indiafoodtour.com/key-things-need-know-indian-food/ Indian food is known to be one of the most rich and delicious cuisines in the whole world. When you are traveling, you are bound to encounter some Indian food at the restaurants. Most people do not know how to make Indian food and therefore do not know much about it. Health benefits: Indian food is one of the healthiest in the world. It is made with very little oil and never animal fat. This means that it is not likely to result in high cholesterol blood content. This means that it is quite excellent for people who want to stay healthy and not experience cardiac diseases. This food is also made using a lot of spices and herbs. Most of these are known to have not only excellent taste, but they also have medicinal benefits. Some of the spices, such as turmeric, help in boosting the immune system. This means that by eating Indian food regularly, you are able to keep diseases at bay and live a healthy life. Main courses: Unlike other international cuisines which involve a lot of courses, Indian cuisine centers around one main course. This is either rice or bread. The variations in the dishes are brought about by the side servings which are numerous. Indian rice is made through different recipes so you do not feel like you are eating the same main dish every day. For example, you can have pulao rice, masala rice or turmeric rice. There are also a variety of Indian breads such as roti, naan or chapatti. These breads are sometimes made from whole grains and without any adding any fat making them healthy but still tasty. Meats: Indian food includes a wide range of meats apart from beef. However, most of the dishes are vegetarian with protein being obtained from other sources. Some of the popular protein sources for Indian foods include lentils, dried beans, chickpeas and black-eyed peas. This is one of the reasons why Indian food is considered to be quite healthy due to the extensive variety of vegetarian dishes. Spices: Indian foods are made using a lot of spices. Indian curries are quite hot and you may not be able to eat them if you are not used to having pepper in your food. Never the less, you can always make a special request to the chef to make your food without the pepper. This will take away a bit of the hotness but the other spices used will still maintain the flavor. Therefore, it is always advisable that you enquire from the server how spicy a dish is before ordering for it. Variety in recipes: Indian food is never prepared in the same way. Due to the wide variety of spices, you will find that each hotel and chef have their own secret recipes. Therefore, the same dish will taste quite different from one restaurant to another. This is one of the most intriguing things about Indian food and continues to make it a favorite

Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

“I only wish I'd had more room in my stomach!” Jaidev was so much fun and so serious about showing us a good time. We went to Old Delhi, New Delhi, and several places in South Delhi. Everything was so delicious, and even though Jaidev was strict about not eating too much, I still ran out of room. Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

“Fantastic - do not miss this!” We did this tour as a group of 6 friends whilst backpacking in India. Whilst quite pricey on a backpacking budget I can honestly say it is well worth the money! Rajeev and JD are great hosts and good fun to spend a few hours with; and most importantly showed us some exceptionally good food in Delhi. The food is varied and consistently good, and served from spots you are unlikely to find as a tourist - I had been to Delhi a couple of times before and had no idea these places existed! We especially enjoyed the tour around Old Delhi, which is amazing but can be a bit overwhelming if you don't know where you are going, so it was cool to be led around and fed! The kulfi stop will live long in the memory - Recommended. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r192424273-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT #cookingclass #foodtours #tourism #india #foodwalk #food #delhi #travel #cooking

Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

“Fantastic insight into street food in Delhi” We had been in India for 10 days and were afraid to eat street food. I was wondering what we would do on a 6 hour food tour but it far exceeded our expectations. Rajeev is a chef who has incredible passion and has spent a year researching on the best street food in Delhi, we explored Old Delhi on foot (which was much better than on bike), and then they took us to Connaught Place and finally to South Delhi. There are also places to visit along the way where you can rest your stomach. Raj is very mindful of hygiene as well so you can be sure that every precautions has been taken. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r193769161-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT #foodwalks #tourism #foodtour #cookingclass #india #food #delhi #travel #cooking

“Great way to experience and taste Delhi” Highly recommend this food tour! There is no doubt that I was sketched out by the places we went to that appeared unsanitary. However, no stomach problems at all! They bring you to locations you will never find on your own. We tasted the most amazing lassi, and ate foods we never would have tried on our own. We also got to walk and pedicab in old Delhi, which was complete madness but it was reassuring to have a guide. The guides give details and have great passion for food. Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

"“It gives you a peak into ordinary Indians' lives” It took me long to write this review. I enjoyed this tour about a month and a half ago. One of the most impressive memories about this tour was I could be in the midst of the hustle-bustle of traditional Indian markets with all the crowd, but feel safe and enjoy all the unique and delicious Indian foods.Rajeev was such a pleasant guy and very passionate about letting more people know about Indian foods. His sense of humor and character made the tour more fun and enjoyable. His colleague, Jaidev also made sure that everybody was safe, and took photos of your enjoying foods without your knowing. We tried five or six different dishes with good explanation about the ingredients, how they were made, and what was special about each. At the end of the day, we had our final dinner on the hood of Raj's car -That was also so fun! It was such a shame that I could not eat that much because my stomach had already reached its limitation. My friend and I took the tour as one of our last legs in India. We both wished he had chosen that as our first activity in India. To be honest, as we approached the end of our trip, we were a bit tired of Indian spices and food and started to miss our regular foods. Therefore, one of my personal tips is to schedule this tour as one of your first activities in India and, if possible, book it on weekdays. We enjoyed it on a Sunday, and had to face terrible, terrible traffic jam and crowd - Rej said they were strangely much more terrible than other days, and usually there were not that much traffic and crowd, though. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r195733102-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT" #cookingclass #foodtours #tourism #india #foodwalk #food #delhi #travel #cooking

Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

"“Fantastic introduction to street food in Dehi” We would like to thank Jaidev Jamwal for the most amazing experience. Having never been to India before and loving Indian food this is the best way to start. Still slightly jet lagged Jaidev guided us through the back streets and roadside outlets that we would have avoided. What we received was a unique insight into flavours and delights that awaited us on our 4 week holiday in India. Two dishes stood out. In the backstreets of Old Delhi a young man sliced a banana in half hollowed it a little and sprinkled spices topped with pomegranate seeds into it. The second was at a roadside shack takeaway that had a constant stream of punters and guys on bikes doing deliveries. The story was that a wealthy man who had lost his teeth and loved meat asked his chef to produce something that he could eat without chewing. He created a goats meat shish kebab with 80% meat and 20% spices that like the banana with spices just explodes with flavour in your mouth. The tour also includes stops at a Sikh temple preparing free food for people who live on the streets or can't afford it. A ride on a rickshaw and a rooftop visit above Old Delhi spice market, to name but a few. Transport is in a air conditioned vehicle. Well done Jaidev I hope your business is a success. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r196618193-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT" #foodwalks #tourism #foodtour #cookingclass #india #food #delhi #travel #cooking

Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

“Excellent tour, highly recommended as an intro to real Indian food” Firstly I should say sorry for the time it has taken to do this review! We did the tour in October and have raved about it since getting back, given that we toured around some amazing sites in India over the following 2 weeks (see my other reviews) this still managed to stand out. I can't recommend it enough as a way of getting a good understanding of real Indian street food. We weren't ill in anyway and I'd do this again next time I visit Delhi. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r196852611-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT #foodwalks #tourism #foodtour #cookingclass #india #food #delhi #travel #cooking

Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

"“Much better than we expected” Among all the things we did and saw during our vacation in India, this tour has a special place not only due to the quality of service but also the overall experience. We had read the reviews and expected the tour to be good. But it was much better than we ever expected. As I sad before, quality of service, starting from ease of booking to pickup from our hotel to actual tour and food was excellent. The food itself was much much better than we ever had anywhere and from really old historical food joints. The oldest food place was in business for 120 years !! Then there was the sightseeing part in older and crowded part of Delhi, visit to the bird hospital, time spent with pottery artisans and delicious food at every stop. All these experience, sights, smells and flavours were mind blowingly good. We could not have discovered even a fraction of this if we were on our own.. It was a completely different experience from all the guided tours that I've taken till now and probably the best too. If you have even one day in Delhi, do this tour. You'll not regert it. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r198300502-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT" #foodwalks #tourism #foodtour #cookingclass #india #food #delhi #travel #cooking

Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

"“Unique and wonderful” This was one of the first things I did on my first visit to India and it remains one of the most memorable things of my 3 1/2 week time in India. I love Indian food but I tasted things I never could have gotten in the US. I just wish I was not too full to finish the water buffalo milk mango milkshake! Jaidev was the perfect host (which is how I think of him). I wanted to learn all I could about Indian culture and he was a wealth of information and even provided me with the names of some authors to read. The food was varied and delicious and each item was accompanied by a fascinating story and completely complemented the tour. Do not miss this. Thank you Jaidev! http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r199570518-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT" #foodtour #foodwalk #tourism #india #food #delhi #travel #cooking #cookingclass

Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

“Great introduction to Delhi, a real fun day out!” What a great introduction to Delhi, a really enjoyable day! We only booked this tour just before leaving the UK and confirmed arrangements en route. Jaidev was so prompt replying, at what was a very unsociable time and was really helpful. As we were arriving at 4am in Delhi we wanted a morning start but with hindsight we would have been fine starting at 3pm. Food tasting is combined with food related touring and you get a real feel for the city. We were joined by 2 other lovely couples which was nice and everyone gelled. We got to try lots of street food which we would not have braved on our own (we do eat street food in Thailand & Vietnam but it feels more of a risk in India). There was also a nice mix of walking and travelling between sites. We tried lots of fried Indian snacks with dips and a top lassi, fruit sandwiches, lovely Indian ice creams, great cold coffee served in a milk bottle with a savoury snack. The last stop was several curry dishes & breads.Loved the visit to the Sikh food kitchen Jama Masjidy by Connaught Place, this produces food for people who are starving in Delhi and is run by volunteers. We also visited the temple there which felt so serene. We have been on amazing food tours and this one was well up there for service & fun.http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r200725653-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT
